With the undefeated Frankel having moved on to retirement after a 14-0 career, sprint horse Black Caviar has moved into the top position on the HorseRacingNation.com thoroughbred power ranking. She has won an incredible 22 starts against no defeats, something that hasn’t been done in over 150 years. Her ownership group paid just over $200 thousand for her and she has given that back and then some by earning $ 6,771,050 in her career to this point. Black Caviar has won 19 graded stakes wins with 12 of those being grade I. Already there is talk of mating her with Frankel and you can read more about that here; Unbeatens Frankel and Black Caviar to mate?
Next year Churchill Downs will add a third racing meet to its schedule for the first time. Earlier this week the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission approved September racing for the track. There will be 12 total days in the meet that will take place the first weekend after Labor Day with races being run on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The dates were previously held by Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky, but the much smaller track couldn’t match the purses that the Louisville based Churchill Downs can offer.
So far, 180 thoroughbreds have been pre-entered in the Breeders’ Cup races that will take place on November 2nd and 3rd at Santa Anita. Among the notables expected to take part in the $5 million Classic are Game On Dude, Dullahan, Alpha, and Flat Out. The Bob Baffert trained Game on Dude has won four of his six races this year and will likely be considered the favorite. The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile for males is likely to see top rated and undefeated colt Shanghai Bobby take on Power Broker, Know More, and Title Contender all of who are expected to make an impact on the 2014 Triple Crown season.
