It’s not often that we jump off the beaten path at DerbyDeals.com when it comes to giving our customers and readers information on thoroughbred horse racing. Our primary focus, other than being the best source on the web for buying Kentucky Derby tickets and ticket packages, is to bring you information on the Derby and Triple Crown racing. It would be a missed opportunity though if we didn’t mention one of the best race horses in the world counting down the days until his final race. British thoroughbred Frankel, the top rated horse in the world, will put his 13-0 lifetime record on the line for the final time this coming Saturday and then will be retired to stud.
Frankel is a British race horse and passive American fans are not likely to know his name, but for those who are apt to absorb every bit of thoroughbred information they can, he is a respected titan. Frankel is a four-year-old that was bred at Juddmonte Farms, is trained by Sir Henry Cecil, and was named for American trainer Bobby Frankel. He has won 11 graded stakes races, including eight consecutive grade I affairs. As he has piled up the wins, his training group has not been shy about upping the stakes and taking on new challenges. In his last contest, Frankel was run at over a mile for the first time in his career in the International Stakes. If there was any doubt to his greatness, they were put away on that day as he surged to a seven length victory and showed himself to be more than just a fantastic sprint horse.
October 20th is slated to be the last race day in Frankel’s magnificent career. He will take to the track at Ascot in the Grade I Champion Stakes and close out his career, win or lose, in the mile and a quarter contest. Over 32,000 fans will pour into the track, with most expecting a win, to pay tribute one last time to one of the great thoroughbreds of this generation.
