The best that thoroughbred horse racing had to offer in 2012 are going to be honored on Saturday January 19th at the Eclipse Awards. The Eclipse Awards ceremony will be held at Gulfstream Park and televised live on HRTV. This year is going to be special for racing fans as access to the award winners will be made available to racing fans immediately following the ceremony. That doesn’t mean that fans will get to see Wise Dan up close should he win Horse of the Year, but a representative (trainer, owner?) will be there to meet fans for the horses who win their categories. Gulfstream is making this week a celebration of the Eclipse Awards by featuring several events leading up to the awards ceremony, including a “Fans First” party at the track. On Wednesday, there will be a charity slots tournament at the Gulfstream Casino. There is a $100 entry fee and the proceeds go to The Race for Education and the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation. Thursday will be yet another chance to help a charitable cause as the Eclipse Celebrity Poker Tournament will be held with the proceeds going to the Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund.  Friday night will see Gulfstream Park host a Celebration of the Stars Cocktail Party and admission is included with an Eclipse Award ticket or can be bought separately for $100. This party will also coincide with a live and silent auction to benefit the Gulfstream Thoroughbred Aftercare Program. These events are a great opportunity for fans to get involved in helping some of the top charities in thoroughbred racing, while having a great time mingling with the biggest names in the sport. The racing fans who want to be a part of the celebration can come out to the track on Saturday and enjoy the “Sunshine Millions” racing card that will feature six stakes races that have over $1 million in purse money. Fans can also take part in the “Fans First” celebration that will be going on at the Level Two balcony and walking ring. There will be concessions available along with television screens for fans to watch the Eclipse Awards as it is happening and don’t forget about the access to those who just won an award!
